Processing Class
A 3-hour, hands-on class that teaches you everything you need to process your own poultry
Does the thought of processing a chicken stress you out?
Have you been holding off on raising chickens for meat because you're not sure you could follow through on their "last day"?
GOOD! That's exactly the reaction you're supposed to have to this. You're supposed to have hesitation and concern. That means you have empathy and reverence for all living things. Processing animals you raised yourself is no small task.
That's why I invite you to join us for one of our processing day classes, where we will slowly and specifically guide you through our ethical and humane methods of processing our own batches of chickens here at Breakaway Pastures.
This isn't grandma in the backyard with a hatchet.
This is careful and purposeful processing that respects the animal throughout the entire process. We rely on sharp, safe, efficient, and effective equipment to guide the animal all the way through processing and into the freezer.
Whether you've processed chicken before or are just learning about it, you'll leave this 3 hour class confident in your ability to replicate our process at home with your own animals. This class is designed to offer you hands-on experience in a controlled environment with experienced farmers.
Take notes, take videos, and ask as many questions as you can think of!
*We recommend wearing clothes to this class that can afford to get stained or wet. All equipment will be provided for participation in this class. We will have product for you to purchase and take home if you'd like, but the chickens we process together during class will not be available to take home due to ice bath requirements and rigor mortis time.
**All ages welcome to attend. We believe everyone should know where their food comes from, but parents should consider the maturity of their children before bringing them to participate.
