Why We Don't Ship Nationwide
At Breakaway Pastures, our priority is on building a more local and sustainable food chain. We focus on raising and processing our animals right here at the farm, and to do that, we must operate under a state poultry exemption that doesn't allow us to sell our products outside of North Carolina.
Unlike large subscription box companies or bigger farms who process with the USDA and ship their orders across the nation, we've decided to go a different route, and here’s why:
-
Local Focus: Our mission is to nourish the community around North Carolina and Charlotte. We believe food can and should be grown where people live, and by focusing on the community around us, we can build a more sustainable food system that is resilient to disruption from world events.
-
Economic Responsibility: Shipping across the nation requires millions of dollars of infrastructure, equipment, and diesel. Not to mention a reliance on others who might not share our same values. We avoid all of this by maintaining our own local and efficient delivery system.
-
Minimal Waste: Nationwide shipping often requires more single-use plastics like ice packs, packaging, tape, labels, etc. We strive to reduce waste (and higher product costs) by focusing on local delivery methods and reusable transportation.
By supporting us and our farm, you’re contributing to a more sustainable and connected food system. Together, we can make a difference in how food is produced, delivered, and enjoyed.
